Lightweight Cutting Board w/ 5 Woods
Lightweight Cutting Board w/ 5 Woods
This relatively thin board is strong and durable, but easy to move around since it is lightweight. It is also reversible. It is what one calls a face grain design.
"Face grain" design means that the wood is laid out with the pretty side facing up (the cutting surface). This allows the wonderful grain of the woods to show. It does show knife marks a bit over time, that's just how a face grain cutting board works. It can be maintained with an oil such as mineral oil, or a Howard's product (from Amazon). Or I could offer you some of my mineral oil and bee's wax mixture that makes the board completely waterproof and really fills in knife marks. Or if you are confident with a sanding block, you could take off a millimeter of wood and expose new, perfect grain maybe twice a year! If this is used in your home once or twice a day (i.e., not a restaurant) and not put in the dishwasher, I expect it would last you no less than five years if you maintain it in the way I suggest.
The woods used are (from top to bottom in the main photo): canary wood, white oak, jatoba, white oak, canary wood, cherry, canary wood, red maple, and cherry.
The dimensions are 11"x15".
