Big Walnut Cutting Board
Big Walnut Cutting Board
This 9-lb. face-grain cutting board is made from one slice of a black walnut tree, grown here in the Eastern United States. Two segments of the same board were mated together right in the middle lengthwise.
The dimensions are 13"x15"x1.75". There are rubber feet as well as finger-holds on this board that is teeming with character (and that is evident by the photos that are of the bottom of the board).
Walnut is a popular wood for cutting boards for a reason: it is strong, beautiful, and dimensionally stable--yet not so hard that it dulls knives as quickly as a harder wood can. Yet, 100% natural/undyed walnut cutting boards are special to find (and this face grain design accentuates the beauty of the wood).
If you will keep this looking dark and rich with a food safe oil, and are willing to sand it down a couple millimeters every couple of years, this baby will have unlimited life!
Note: if "sanding a board down" is intimidating, I could do that for you, and so could anyone who is handy with an electric sanding device; YouTube can also show you how it's done. Not a problem!
